Three Psalms of Assurance for chorus (2008).
Three Attributive Psalms was commissioned and premiered by Shawna Stewart and the Biola University Conservatory of Music Chorale early in 2009. Each Psalm focuses on one of the divine attributes: God as Shepherd, as Comforter, and as Light. They are welcome reminders of the assurance He gives us that if we “wait for the Lord [and] be of good courage, He shall strengthen your heart.” (Psalm 27). These pieces may be performed alone or as a set; solo passages may be performed by the entire section as desired. Free phrasing, commemorative of plainchant, is encouraged in most sections, although attention must be given in each setting to creating an overall sense of forward motion.
